The City of Akron officially marked the beginning of it’s largest infrastructure project with a groundbreaking ceremony on November, 6th 215 for the “Ohio Canal Interceptor Tunnel (OCIT) Project”. THOMARIOS, along with Parsons and Welty make up the Construction Management Team for this monumental project.

The OCIT project involves construction of conveyance and storage tunnel systems to control combined sewer overflows for several regulators in the downtown Akron area. It will take about three years and will result in the creation of a 6,240-foot underground tunnel as well as large drop shafts, diversion structures, consolidated sewers and related appurtenances that will have a diameter of 27 feet. It will be built to hold 25 million gallons of combined sewer overflows(CSOs).

THOMARIOS is proud to be a part of the construction management team, helping the Akron community comply with regulatory requirements and enhancing Akron’s water resources and quality of life for future generations.
